New website aims to help single parents
If you are a single parent, you will know that there is a unique set of problems and issues surrounding working and looking after your family, whether you're a mum or a dad.
OneSpace, a new social networking site with a unique benefit for single parents, launched at the end of May at www.onespace.org.uk. For the first time ever, online parenting experts will be on hand to give professional parenting support within an engaging and accessible social media site for lone parents of all ages and backgrounds.
The experienced parenting experts will introduce a theme for discussion and encourage single parents to participate by sharing their views and experiences, tackling issues such as: setting boundaries for children, keeping children safe, access arrangements and managing relationships.
Angie McDonald from OneSpace says: "We know that single parents use the internet, and by creating an informal and interactive support network OneSpace will encourage single parents to engage with others in similar circumstances, sharing experiences and problems and adding their views through message boards and chat rooms.
"The mutual support from other single parents will help reduce the isolation so often experienced by those parenting alone, whilst the information from trained professionals will help to build the confidence to parent alone successfully whilst giving much-needed practical advice in a friendly and accessible way."
Visitors to OneSpace can choose their level of participation; those who prefer not to join in the discussions or use the message boards can simply browse the numerous resources which include articles on parenting, current news items and frequently asked questions.
Links to national specialist agencies such as the Children’s Legal Centre and the Family Rights Group will help them to find the help they need, whilst an added feature, UK Advice Finder, will enable users to find further support in their local area.
